For most of my life, I believed great musicians were born, not built. Then I got thrown into a job that didn't give me time to keep believing it.
Thirteen years ago I came on staff at Mercy Hill, a church growing faster than I could keep up with. Sunday kept coming whether I was ready or not. There was nobody else to mix it, so I learned to self-produce. The team outgrew my memory, so I built systems. The growth that could have crushed me became my teacher.
Three albums and 35 original songs later, I still do the whole job every week. The songs, the room, the team, the systems. I'm not past the wrestling. I'm just further down the road, and I came back with a map.
